High School

Among high school students who have used alcohol, the average age of first use is 13.7 years. Age at first use was slightly higher for females than males (13.8 and 13.5 years, respectively).
The average age of first use was slightly higher for marijuana (14 years). Again, females reported a higher age of first use compared to males (14.2 and 13.8 years, respectively).

Theses results suggest white students have a higher age of onset for the use of alcohol than other race/ethnic groups. The age of onset of marijuana use is higher for white and Asian students compared to others.
